Core Principles of the Paleo Diet
The Paleo Diet is built on several core principles derived from the presumed dietary habits of our Stone Age ancestors. Firstly, the diet emphasizes whole, unprocessed foods such as lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, which are nutrient-dense and free from artificial additives and preservatives. It excludes grains, legumes, dairy, and processed sugars, arguing that these foods were not part of the Paleolithic diet and may contribute to modern health issues such as digestive problems and metabolic disease. The diet also encourages the consumption of healthy fats from sources like avocados, olive oil, and fatty fish while avoiding trans fats and refined vegetable oils. Lastly, an important principle is the focus on sustainability and food quality—preferably choosing grass-fed, wild-caught, and organic options.
