An Overview of Analgesics
Analgesics, commonly known as painkillers, are medications designed to alleviate pain. They are categorized into two main classes: non-opioid analgesics and opioid analgesics. Non-opioid analgesics include acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and aspirin. These are typically used for mild to moderate pain relief. Opioid analgesics, such as morphine and oxycodone, are used for more severe pain and are often prescribed after surgeries or for chronic pain management. The choice of analgesic depends on the type and severity of pain, as well as the patient's medical history.
